SpotGuesser
Football trivia, answered on the map. Five questions a day, one pin on the globe for each.
A daily quiz where every answer is somewhere on Earth.
Close counts.
Every question has a real latitude and longitude behind it. Instead of picking from four options, you drop a pin on a 3D globe, and the closer it lands, the more of the 100 points you keep. A near miss still scores, which keeps a guess interesting right up to the reveal.
SpotGuesser is a free, no-login football trivia game. Every day brings the same five questions for everyone, covering players, stadiums, famous matches, World Cups, transfers and history. A perfect day is 500 points.
After each guess you see the right place, how far off you were, and a short story behind the answer: why a striker was born in a city he never played for, or where a final was won and how. Five minutes a day, and you come away knowing something you didn't.
Multiple choice makes trivia a coin toss.
Most football quizzes give you four answers and a one-in-four chance. A wild guess scores the same as real knowledge, and a near miss scores the same as having no idea at all.
Ask where, and score by distance.
Football is tied to places: grounds, birthplaces, finals, clubs. Asking where turns every question into a scale rather than a yes or no. Knowing the right country is worth something, knowing the right city is worth more, and the reveal teaches you the rest.
Read, pin, lock it in.
Read the question
Five football questions, the same for everyone that day. There is no clock, so you can take as long as you like over each one.
Drop a pin
Drag to rotate the globe, scroll or pinch to zoom, tap to place a pin. Tap again or drag the pin to move it. Nothing is submitted until you press Lock it in.
Learn the story
The map zooms to the answer and draws a line from your pin to it, with the distance, your score for the question and a few lines on why that place matters.
A daily habit, built properly.
Your score against everyone
When you finish, you see where your score sits among everyone who played the same five questions, with a chart you can widen to the whole month or the year.
Challenges for up to eight
Add up to seven friends' names and send the link. Nobody signs up. Once everyone has played you get the standings, the closest guess, the biggest miss and every pin on a map.
Streaks and past games
Play on the day and your streak grows. Miss one and every past match is still there to play, without touching the streak or skewing the live charts.
Sharing without spoilers
Share your score as one coloured square per question, from green for a great guess to grey for a big miss. Post it in the group chat on the day without giving a single answer away.
Football stories
A free section of articles about players, stadiums, clubs and competitions, each with a map of the places behind it. Many are about exactly the kind of thing the game asks.
Players pick what's next
Football is the first topic, not the only one planned. A vote on the homepage lets players choose the next one, from History and Landmarks to Formula 1 and Food.
A look around.
Common questions.
How is a guess scored?
Each question is worth 100 points. The distance between the pin and the answer is measured as a straight line across the surface of the earth, and the further off the pin lands, the fewer of those points it keeps. Five questions make a perfect score of 500.
Do players need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email and no password. Scores, streaks and challenges are kept in the browser, which is the one trade-off: they belong to the browser they were played in.
How do challenges work?
Create a challenge, add up to seven friends by name and send the link. Everyone plays the same five questions in their own time until the challenge closes at the end of the day, then compares standings and every pin, question by question.
What happens if someone misses a day?
Every match since the first one stays in Past games and can be replayed at any time. Archive plays do not touch the streak and are not counted in the live score charts, so they are there for catching up, not for patching a gap.
Can a score be shared without spoiling the answers?
Yes. The share link shows the score and one coloured square per question, from green for a great guess to grey for a big miss, plus a button to play the same five questions. No answer is given away.
A real globe, in the browser.
The globe is MapLibre GL running on open OpenFreeMap vector tiles built from OpenStreetMap data. Players can switch between three map styles (Azure, Ocean and Midnight). The site is built with Next.js and served from Vercel.
